The Altoona 4th of July race committee and the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA have announced plans for the 31st Anniversary July 4th Races on Monday, July 4 at 8 a.m.
The race consists of a 15K run, a 5K run/walk and a lollipop fun run for kids.
Pre-registration is $12 and guarantees entrants a T-shirt. Deadline for pre-registration is July 1. Family rate for three or more from the same household is $10 each and members must pre-register at the same time. Post-registration on race day will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. and is $15. T-shirts will be available while supplies last.
Registration forms can be picked up at the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA, or by calling 695-4467. Pre-registered runners may pick up their registration packets and T-shirt at the Y on Friday, July 1, Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3. Packets will also be available at race headquarters on race day.
Hailed as Central Pennsylvania’s longest running road race, participants will be categorized into age groups for both men and women, and awards will be presented to the top three in each age group. Plaques will be awarded to the top two men and women overall.
The courses for the 15K and 5K races, and the 5K fun walk are fast flat loops. The courses for the 15K and 5K are certified. All races begin at 8 a.m. at the Mishler Theater on 1208 12th Avenue in downtown Altoona.
The 31st Annual July 4th race is sponsored by Blair Orthopedics, M&T Bank and Mountain View Eye Associates.
Proceeds benefit the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA’s summer youth programs, which includes Camp Sun-N-Fun based out of the Tyrone Area Elementary School.
