The Tyrone Area Youth Baseball Association hosted a tournament for the eight and Under All-Stars during the week of July 21-24. One of three tournaments sponsored by the local TYBA, which will have a total of 500 kids playing over a period of three weeks, the Tyrone entry in the Eight and Under Tournament split a pair if round robin games to finish in third place.
The Tyrone All-Stars dropped a couple of close contests to Juniata Valley, by scores of 10-9 on July 22, and by 14-11 on July 23. The local entry won a pair of games in between knocking off Bellwood 10-8, on July 22, and insuring a third-place finish in the tournament by thrashing Four Leaf 18-9. Mount Union won the tournament.
In their opening hookup with Juniata Valley, Tyrone took a 6-2 lead after three innings, but Juniata Valley poured across seven runs in their final two at bats, while limiting Tyrone to just one tally in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Tyrone outhit Juniata Valley 22-18, but committed eight errors to just two for Juniata Valley.
Tristan Lingafelt, Zack Soellner, and Mark Lewis all had three hits to lead the Tyrone offense. Lingafelt, Soellner and Ricky Reeder each scored two runs and Lewis knocked in two.
Juniata Valley had the only two extra-base hits in the game. Erin Maysonet hit a double and Lucas Morningstar clubbed a home run.

Tyrone scored early against Bellwood on July 22, The Tyrone Area Eight and Under All-Stars put three runs on the board in the first and third innings, two in the fourth and one in each of the second and fifth innings to make things tough for the crew from Bellwood.
The Bellwood team was cold at the outset, but warmed up to score twice in the third inning, once in each of the following two innings and then tried to rally back with four scores in the top of the sixth. It was a case of too little, too late however with Tyrone notching the win.
Zack Noch of Bellwood was the only player in the game with three hits, while four teammates and six Tyrone players all managed two base hits. Tyrone had a decided advantage in the power category, with home runs by Tristan Lingafelt and Freedom Sprankle as well as doubled by Lingafelt and Caleb Hammond, while Bellwood’s 18 hits were all singles.
Lingafelt, Zack Soellner, Blake Brooks, Bryant Taylor, JoJo Steinbugl and Ricky Reeder had two hits for Tyrone. Devon Barr, Cameron Wood, Trenton Creppage and Josh George had two hits each for Bellwood.

In an 11:30 contest on Saturday morning, July 23, the Tyrone All-Stars trailed 7-4 after Four leaf had batted in the top of the third inning. The local 8 and Under club then turned the game into an easy triumph by outscoring their opponents 14-2 over the rest of the ballgame for an 18-9 win that would guarantee Tyrone a third place finish.
Tristan Lingafelt, Zach Soellner and Ty Snyder each cracked out three hits to lead the Tyrone offense and Mark Lewis, Caleb Hammond, Freedom Sprankle, Blake Brooks, Zane Hertzler and Titus Irvin each added two base hits in the team’s 26-hit attack.
Sprankle hit two doubles and drove in three runs, while Hammond, Snyder and Ricky Reeder each drove in a pair of runs for the winners. Reeder clubbed a triple, and Tristen Walters added a double.

In their final outing of the tournament, the Tyrone All-Stars ran into Juniata Valley again, which has been a tough nemesis all summer long, no matter which tournament the two teams enter.
Playing at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, both teams got off to big starts with five run-first innings. Juniata Valley put eight more runs on the board in the third and fourth frames however, and Tyrone was unable to answer.
The hosts did manage to come alive to score four in the fifth and two more in their final at bat in the bottom of the sixth, but Juniata Valley pulled out the 14-11 victory.
Tristan Lingafelt, who hammered out 11 hits in the four games, pounded out three in the finale and Zack Soellner, who had 10 hits in the four contests, Mark Lewis, Freedom Sprankle, Blake Brooks, Bryant Taylor, and JoJo Steinbugl added two hits each.
Steinbugl drove in three runs and Soellner doubled and had two RBI.
