Local athlete, Ashley Roth, recently helped lead the Laurel Highlands Region Volleyball Team to a Silver Medal at the Keystone State Games. Roth, a senior Outside Hitter on the Tyrone Lady Eagles Volleyball team, participated in a series of tryouts and was one of ten players to be invited to represent the Laurel Highlands Region. Held in York, PA on July 30-31, 2005, the Keystone Games bring together some of the best athletes throughout the state. The two day volleyball tournament saw the Laurel Highlands Region team breeze through the first day of competition with a perfect 4-0 record. On day two, the team defeated the Pocono Region in the quarterfinals and the Lehigh Valley Region in the semifinals before falling to the Nittany Region, two games to one, in the Gold Medal match. Roth compiled six kills and 11 service points during the event. “It was great to get Ashley exposed to this level of competition. She wants to play volleyball at college and she\’s been working very hard to make this possible. To have her make this team and play with and against some of the best volleyball players in the state speaks volumes about how hard she\’s worked,” commented Tyrone Volleyball coach Dave Eckberg who served as an assistant coach for the Laurel Highlands team. “It was a good opportunity to work with athletes, who were really good from all across the state,” explained Roth. “I really liked the experience and would do it again.”
