The Tyrone girls volleyball teams hosted Mount Union on Tuesday evening at the Tyrone Elementary School gym.
The Lady Eagles improved to 3-1 in the MAC and 5-2 overall by taking three of the four games, including the final three in a row.
Mount Union edged Tyrone 25-21 in game one, but then the Lady Eagles used a 25-9 win in the second game to set the tone for the rest of the evening. Although the Tyrone girls struggled a bit, they none-the-less never allowed Mount Union to get the momentum back. The Lady Eagles won the final two games 25-22 and 25-19.
Emily Lloyd scored 12 service points and had seven digs. Lindsay Christine and Ashley Roth each had six kills and Kim Cherry registered 19 assists.
“It’s hard to complain about a win,” said Tyrone volleyball coach Dave Eckberg. “But I wasn’t as pleased as I could have been. We made a lot of mistakes and didn’t execute very well. Give Mount Union credit-they played solid defense and really hustled and made things difficult for us.
“We lacked consistency. We need to improve if we are want to be competitive with teams like Bellwood-Antis, who we play tonight, and Philipsburg-Osceola, who we play next week.”
The Tyrone junior varsity evened their record at 2-2 with 25-16 and 25-15 wins over the Mount Union Jayvees.
Tyrone will travel to Bellwood for the first meeting of the season with backyard rival Bellwood-Antis. The junior varsity match will begin at 6 p.m.
