In junior varsity action last night Philipsburg-Osceola ran past a short-handed Tyrone JayVee squad that was without the services of Josh Bradley(arm), Shane Emigh, and also nose guard Nick Wilson.
Tyrone used Shayne Tate\’s legs and Tyler Golden\’s arm to stake the Little Eagles to a 18-12 halftime lead.
Brandon Gehret\’s fumble recovery with 1:32 to go in the first set up the Eagles first score on a 25-yard Golden to Donnie Conrad pass to put Tyrone up 6-0 after one quarter.
Philipsburg-Osceola however put together a seven-play drive covering 73 yards ending with a scoring strike from Reifer to J. D. Mason to tie the score at 6-6.
A Tate run and a Golden throw was all Tyrone needed as they covered 75 yards in two plays with Ethan Etters hauling in Golden\’s bomb and outracing the Little Mounties team to paydirt.
PO tied it again on a seven-play drive ending with Shimmel going 35 yards with 2:31 to play before the halftime intermission.
Tyrone, not to be outdone went to their two minute offense and Golden played it perfectly as he connected on five of eight passes including a fade to Steve Catich with just three ticks left, to go in at halftime up 18-12.
The third quarter started out alright for the Eagles as Etters picked off Reifers pass and Tyrone started play at the PO 46 yard line.
Three runs by Tate and an incompletion on fourth down gave the ball to Philipsburg on its own 39. One play later Shimmel made it 19-18 Philipsburg.
A fumble recovey by the Mounties gave them great field posistion and four plays later, Sidorick and PO had a 27-18 lead. “We have to learn how to tackle,” said Tyrone Coach Darren Elvey. “We made too many mental mistakes.”
A 15-play, 72-yard, time-consuming drive by Tyrone ended on a four-yard run by Tate for the final Eagle score.
It was a dose of Sidorick and Shimmel the rest of the night as they ran for close to 200 yards, with Sidorick rumbling in from 15 yards out to finish the scoring.
“We were clicking on all cylinders in the first half, I was pleased we moved the ball like we did, but we let it get away.” Elvey said. Tyrone is now 3-2 and is home vs Bishop Guilfoyle next Monday.
Eagle bits: Tate rushed for 102 yards, Golden was 10 for 19 with 176 yards with one interception and three TDs.
