Once again, the Tyrone Kiwanis Club will hold its annual coat drive tomorrow from 9 a.m. until noon at the Kopp Drug parking lot in downtown Tyrone. This is the tenth year for the coat drive, held in conjunction with the Salvation Army.
Items needed include children and adult coats, winter hats, boots, mittens, gloves and new toys.
All of the items collected during the coat drive will be distributed to families in the Tyrone area.
Over the years, Tyrone Kiwanis Club has identified a very real and urgent need within the community for these specific items and that is why the items are distributed locally.
So far, the community and surrounding areas have donated over 1,800 coats, along with other items.
“The Tyrone Kiwanis Club is very grateful to the community for keeping these items here at home for needy families,” said Kiwanis representative, Chuck Banas. “Your acts of love and caring will go a long way to helping our neighbors here at home.”
According to Banas, one Tyrone church has already knitted 56 tousle caps to be donated to the drive this year. Also, Healthy Alternatives has supplied a truck to help collect all the material.
Tomorrow morning, Kiwanis members, led by Tyrone Kiwanis President, Reverend Norman Huff, will be at the Kopp Drug parking lot in Tyrone to collect the donated items. Also on hand will be several members of the Tyrone Golden Eagle varsity football team.
Individuals will be able to drive into the parking lot and have their car unloaded by the volunteers.
“Stop by Saturday morning with the kids or the grandchildren and say ‘hi’ to the Tyrone Kiwanis members and meet some of the Tyrone Golden Eagle football players,” said Banas. “The members of the Tyrone Kiwanis know that you will be there with us to help our local families again this year. See you tomorrow morning.”
