The Tyrone Hospital Art Gallery is currently featuring the works of students from Tyrone Area Middle School and Tyrone Area High School.
Along with the student works, viewers can enjoy a few pieces submitted by Eric Feather, Tyrone Area High School art teacher.
The student exhibit is the second for the hospital gallery which was launched in September.
The student work represents grade levels seven through 12. Each artwork on display communicates a personal artistic vision or expression.
The quality of the work is the result of a strong art program in the Tyrone Area School District, beginning at the elementary level and continuing through middle and high school. The student exhibit for Tyrone Hospital was coordinated by Colleen Ferrari, middle school art teacher and Feather.
“Our art department strives to instill a passion for the visual arts in each student. Whether the student is planning to enter a collegiate art program or produce art as a creative pastime, the art curriculum at Tyrone develops technical mastery, creative thinking skills, and knowledge base necessary to sustain a lifelong interest in creating and understanding visual art,” said Feather.
The work on display was created using a wide range of media and techniques for two dimensional artwork. Graphite, charcoal, ink, watercolor, tempera, acrylic, and even sand and yarn are some of the materials students have used to create their art. Those who view the exhibit can enjoy every artistic genre including Landscape, Still-Life, Portraiture, and Interiors.
Feather said the Tyrone Art Department encourages students to draw from interests and life experience to find inspiration for their artwork.
“Creativity is largely a result of losing one’s fear of having their imaginative ideas ridiculed by others. Unfortunately, many of us decide to suppress our creative thoughts as we grow older as others may view our creativity as childish or silly. At Tyrone we teach students that their creative thoughts should be valued and can be a rich source for their artwork,” added Feather.
Students from the Tyrone Area School District are accustomed to having their work on public display. Their work is displayed throughout the school on a regular basis and can also be viewed annually in the Tyrone Regional Arts Council gallery now located at the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library.
Other places to view student artwork is at local businesses, the school district’s website and the annual art show held each spring.
“We hope visitors to the hospital gallery will appreciate the incredible artistic talents we have in our student community. If people know any of the individual artists, I hope they will congratulate them on their efforts,” said Feather.
The public is welcome to visit the hospital and enjoy the student exhibit. The Tyrone Area Middle and High School student art will be on display on the first floor at Tyrone Hospital from through December 18.
