Another Tyrone store was hit by robbery last Friday.
This time, the Choice Cigarette Store at 100 W. 10th Street was targeted.
Tyrone Police Chief Joseph Beachem said this was the fourth reported robbery this year that his department has investigated. One of those robberies proved to be a hoax when a clerk at the Kwik Fill gave police false information about it. Beachem said the other robberies were at the same Kwik Fill, the Community Drugstore on Pennsylvania Avenue and the Uni-Mart.
Beachem said his department was dispatched to the scene of the latest incident on Friday, shortly before 11 p.m. Officers were told that a white male committed the robbery and then fled north on Burley Avenue. Police went to Burley Avenue, but the suspect had left the area by the time they arrived.
Police interviewed the clerk at the store and other officers searched the town for the suspect.
The clerk told police the man was white and had a reddish/brown goatee. The suspect wore sunglasses, a black tassel cap and a gray-colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood up.
Beachem said the man told the clerk to give him all the money in the cash register. The clerk told the man “no.” At that point, the man asked the clerk if he wanted him to “show it” to him. The suspect indicated he had a weapon in his right sweatshirt pocket.
The suspect then grabbed the cash register and took approximately $106. The man then raised his left wrist to his mouth and said “I got it.” He then fled the store.
Beachem said officers were able to obtain a surveillance camera videotape of the incident. The video was sent out for enhancement. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
Beachem said his department is asking anyone with information on the crime is being asked to call (814-684-1365). Those providing information may remain anonymous.
Beachem told The Daily Herald that the other two robberies at the Community Drugstore and the Kwik Fill also remain under investigation.
