Stephen M. Hanzir, Sr., 83, Williamsburg RR 2, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at his home after a brief illness.
He was born in Ganister on Dec. 17, 1921, son of the late John Hanzir and Mary Hanzir Verbonitz. He previously was married to Ruth E. Showalter, who died Dec. 21, 1998.
Mr. Hanzir was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. He retired from the beater room at Westvaco, Tyrone in 1984 after 38 1/2 years of service. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in Korea with Company A, 52nd Signal Battalion, attaining the rank of tech 5th grade. He enjoyed Pirates baseball, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are a son, Stephen M. Jr. (wife Brenda) of Tyrone; two grandchildren: Bethany and Stephen Matthew Hanzir; and four half-sisters: Angela O’Shell of Washington, PA, Helen Pagliara of Hollidaysburg, Kathryn Spitz of Duncansville and Mary Scarfone of the Philadelphia area. He was preceded in death by a half-brother, John Verbonitz.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bolger Funeral Home, Inc., Williamsburg, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by the Rev. Leo Lynch. Interment, with military flag honors, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Williamsburg RR 2.
