Mrs. Jean L. Lykens, age 83, of 724 W. 14th Street, Tyrone died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at 4:10 a.m. at her home.
She was born March 15, 1922 in Tyrone, the daughter of Samuel C. and Florence F. Stewart Leeper and on July 6, 1942 she was married at Alexandria, LA to Blair W. “Brownie” Lykens Jr. who preceded her in death March 17, 1998. She is survived by a daughter, Linda L. and a son Samuel K., both at home. Also surviving is a sister Maryann Merryman of Tyrone, two nephews: Lynne (Teresa) Merryman of Port Matilda and Richard Merryman of Tyrone and one niece: Nancy Bolinda of Tyrone. Also, three great-nieces and one great-nephew: Tracy and Shelly Bolinda and Alicia and Michael Merryman.
Mrs. Lykens was a graduate of Tyrone High School class of 1940 and of the Altoona School for Secretaries. She retired in October of 1983 from Penn State University as a secretary to the Administrator of the Ritenour Health Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and of the Meckes Sunday School Class. She loved music, enjoyed crocheting and enjoyed eating out and going places. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Charles J. Swenson officiating. Interment will be made in Grandview Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2790 West College Avenue, State College, PA 16801 or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.
