The Tyrone Area School District Renaissance Education Foundation announces a group of “stars” for the first marking period of the 2005-06 school year.
Tyrone Middle and High School teachers nominated 14 students for recognition due to their outstanding academic achievement, positive attitude or overall improvement.
Lisa Phillips, a sixth grader, was chosen by Mr. Bouslough, Mr. Friday and Mrs. Myers. They said Lisa is a good student and has a great attitude. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to help when needed. She is a very responsible student and a joy to have in class, according to her teachers.
Caleb Snyder was chosen by sixth grade teachers Mr. Stoner, Mrs. Conrad and Mrs. Chamberlain. They report that Caleb is a hard worker who takes his time to assist other students. He enjoys learning and is an active participant in class. While Caleb is a kind and considerate student, he strives for perfection and excellence in his schoolwork.
Seventh graders Derrick Emigh and Laikan Replogle were chosen as stars by the seventh grade teaching team. The teachers report that Derrick is a very conscientious student who demonstrates outstanding ability in all areas. He strives for the best in everything he does. Derrick provides an excellent role model for all students. Laikan excels in all areas of learning. She is a leader in participation. Laikan consistently performs at a high level on all her school work and tests. She loves learning and demonstrates a maturity beyond her years.
Eighth grader Mark Bryan was selected by his English teacher Mrs. Pinter. Mark has achieved that wonderful balance between scholar, athlete and all around nice guy. He is a terrific role model for other students.
Band director Mr. Patterson chose eighth grader Niko Lambert as a star. Niko is a quiet, courteous student. Despite his calm exterior, he is a tremendously energetic and positive musician. He is looked upon by his peers as a positive role model. Mr. Patterson states, “I always enjoy working with him, whether in rehearsal or in individual lessons.”
Ninth grader Leigha Stewart has been selected as a star by her health teacher, Mrs. Myers. She is hard-working, has great attendance and does well academically. A second ninth grader, Salena Bradigan has been chosen by Madame Smith, French teacher. Salena is a pleasure to have in class, according to Madame Smith. She is enthusiastic and eager to learn and participate fully in class. Her optimism is contagious. Mrs. Smith says she is “a true delight” to teach.
Miss Vargo, health occupations teacher, chose sophomore Amanda Conrad as a Renaissance Star. From the first day of school, Amanda has been a conscientious student. She always tried to participate in class. Her positive attitude sets an example for others in the class.
Mr. Cammarata, civics teacher, chose sophomore Cortney O’Rourke for the honor of Renaissance Star. He is impressed by how seriously Cortney applies herself to her work. Cortney takes advantage of every opportunity provided to her to get the best possible grades in class. She always asks questions, never gives up and always does her best.
James Updike was selected by his eleventh grade chemistry teacher Mr. Yogus. Mr. Yogus states that James is one of the most hard-working students in class. He seeks additional help on a regular basis by coming in during homeroom and before school. James is truly interested in getting the most out of his education to prepare for his future.
Mr. Ben Mordan, agriculture teacher, chose Dan Stover for star recognition. He reports that Dan is very active in sports, FFA, Boy Scouts of America and other community activities. He is a responsible leader and has established impressive goals for his future.
Mrs. Gardner, Mrs. Williams and Miss Barlett agreed that April Miles deserves to be recognized as a Renaissance Star. She is hard-working and diligent in completing all her assignment to the best of her ability. The teachers are pleased with April’s high level of achievement in her classes.
Erica Rumbarger was chosen by Mrs. Volders, marketing and cooperative education teacher. Erica completes all of her work with excellence. She is able to overcome obstacles to achieve her goals. She is well-liked and respect by her peers.
