The Central Pennsylvania Humane Society is offering a great way to help homeless animals without actually adopting them.
CPHS is kicking off a special “Sponsor a Pet for the Holidays” campaign that involves direct donations for specific animals at the shelter.
“It’s sort of like being an ‘absentee adopter,’” said CPHS executive director, Dave Hopkins.
For $100 or more, people can sponsor one of the animals throughout the holiday season. The money will go directly to feed and care for that particular animal and include a flier on each sponsored animal’s cage that notes the sponsorship. The shelter will also accept donations from businesses and their employees as group sponsorships.
“It’s a great way for people to help us get through this time of year and meet the extreme cost of utilities and gas for our vehicles,” noted Hopkins.
“We’re hoping for help from the media to get the campaign up and running and sustain it through to the end of the year,” he added.
The shelter has seen a drop in donations recently attributed to competition from other causes such as Hurricane Katrina and other international disasters as well as local and regional holiday campaigns.
Sponsorships are available for any of the animals, about 60 currently housed at the shelter while they wait for new homes.
