The Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library officials are pleased to announce that Saturday evening, March 25, 2006 will be the date for the next annual fundraising concert for the library.
This annual event has become not only the most successful fundraiser undertaken by the new library, but it also has become one of the community’s most anticipated events. The concerts so far have raised a total in excess of $35,000. All of the funds that are raised during these annual concerts go towards the payment of the mortgage on the new library located on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Tyrone, according to event chairman, Chuck Banas.
The show will again be held at the Tyrone Area High School auditorium. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. that Saturday evening, and the show will start promptly at 7 p.m.
This year’s show will be another fantastic evening of entertainment as everyone in the community is invited to spend “A Night with The Drifters”.
“We wanted to announce the show a bit early this year. It may be possible that many people will think that the tickets for the show will make an excellent stocking stuffer or Christmas gift for someone,” said Banas.
“Three months from Christmas will shoot by very quickly, and there is always a great deal of organizational work to get accomplished,” added Banas. “In another matter of fact, The Drifters had placed the date, time and phone number information on their web page, and we have been getting calls for tickets, so we thought we better get things open to our local residents before too many tickets leave town.”
Banas added that show organizers have already sold four tickets before Thanksgiving.
Tickets will go on sale starting Saturday morning, December 17 at the following ticket outlets: Bressler’s Food Mart and Sports, Kopp Drug and the Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library. Library board members will be contacting individuals and corporate sponsors in the next few weeks. The cost of the tickets will be $30 each. All seating again will be reserved seating and is available on a first come first serve basis.
Banas indicated that there is to be four acts for sure making up this year’s show.
“We are working on a fifth act, but we still need a bit of negotiating before we can officially announce this part of the show,” Banas said. “We are very confident that we will be able to do so in the very near future.”
Headlining this year’s show will be none other than Charlie Thomas’ The Drifters. They will be doing their hits such as “Under the Boardwalk”, “There Goes My Baby”, “Save the Last Dance For Me” and “On Broadway” plus many, many more classics.
“We are also excited about a new law that was recently passed here in Pennsylvania known as SB929,” said Banas. “This new law makes it illegal to advertise or promote or conduct a live musical performance or production in Pennsylvania through the use of false, deceptive or misleading affiliation, connection or association.
“This is great for us as the law requires that at least one of the original members of the group be present,” said Banas. “We have done this for all of our concerts. That is something we are very proud of accomplishing. Having at least one original on stage each concert has been great. This year’s concert will be no exception as Charlie Thomas is one of the originals and will be lighting up the auditorium.
“People may not realize it, but we had The Platters in from New York City last concert, and there are currently 26 groups running around calling themselves The Platters. None of them may have any of the originals so this ‘knock-off’ grouping will be stopped. They will need to change their names so people understand what they are getting,” said Banas.
He added the Tyrone area community can now get ready to enjoy another great evening of entertainment, at the same time being able to help support the Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library so it may continue to meet the educational and recreational needs of the community for generations to follow.
