Howard W. Hurd, 82, formerly of 905 W. 15th St., Tyrone died Monday, January 2, 2006 at The Fairways at Brookline Village, State College.
He was born May 9, 1923 in Lock Haven, a son of the late Gilbert and Jessie (Knarr) Hurd. In July 1946 in Pottsville he married Margaret C. “Peg” Hurd. She died March 23, 2003.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Dill of State College, a brother Vincent of Lisle, Illinois and a sister Ernestine Piper of Lock Haven.
Mr. Hurd retired in 1988 from Westvaco, Tyrone and was employed in a variety of managerial positions. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tyrone where he was active in the Mariners and also the Meals on Wheels program.
He was a 1943 graduate of Penn State with a degree in Chemistry and was a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII with service in the South Pacific.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, Lamar with Rev. Dale Sattizahn officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Bethel Cemetery. There will be no public viewing.
