Antis Township will be gaining another business in the spring according to Altoona business owner Steve Seltzer.
He has owned the former Saylor Honda Powersport outlet since last April. The business name was changed to Steve Seltzer Honda in the fall.
Seltzer said the location at 6028 Sixth Avenue is no longer adequate. He said the new store located off the Pinecroft exit of Interstate 99 will not only be a better location but will also provide better visibility and a better layout. The size of the store will be about double its current size according to Seltzer.
The current building has 7,000 to 8,000 square-feet of the space. The new building will be just more than 14,000-square-feet. Seltzer said the current building is located behind an unrelated business, Blair Honda.
The new location will be at the intersection of Old Route 220 and Sabbath Rest Road. The business will be relocated to an already existing shell building. However, in order to make the building suitable for the Honda powersport business, Seltzer said it would cost an estimated $1.5 million to complete the project.
He said the project is expected to go out for bid by the end of the month. The bid would then be awarded in February. Seltzer said he envisioned work on the building being done in March and is expected be substantially done by the beginning of April. He said the building should be ready to open for business by May 1.
Seltzer said plans for a move have been in the works since about the time he took over the business last spring. The company currently employs seven people and Seltzer said he plans to hire five more people due to the relocation and expansion.
He said Antis Township had already approved subdivision plans. He called working with township officials “a pleasure.” He said it was clear “Antis Township is interested in new businesses” locating there.
He said the move to the Pinecroft location might not be permanent. He is already the process of buying a 15 1/2-acre piece of land in Antis Township that will allow further expansion.
Honda officials have advised Seltzer that most of their locations are about double the size of the new Pinecroft location.
He said the business offers a variety of products including power equipment, scooters, ATVs and motorcycles.
