Jack S. Snyder, age 79, of RR1, Sugar Grove, and a former Tyrone resident died Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at his residence. He was born June 15, 1926 in Tyrone, the son of Walter and Bessie Umholtz Snyder. On June 13, 1953 in Winchester, VA he was married to Donna McCahan who survives. Also surviving are two sons – Steven Snyder and his companion Lorrie Chappell, Middleburg and John Snyder and wife Kim of Sugar Grove; six grandchildren – Rachel Reber, Jeremy Snyder and wife Nicole, Becky Snyder, Joshua Snyder, John Snyder, Larissa Snyder and a stepgranddaughter Clara Chappell and two great-grandchildren – Shawn and Corbin Snyder.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers – Melvin, Walter, Albert, William, Winfield, Robert and James Snyder and two sisters – Emma Grove and Laminta Wertz.
He had been employed in the signal department of Conrail, retiring after 42 years service. He had served in the United States Army. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 50 in Sugar Grove and the Sunset Hill Golf Course in Lakewood.
A memorial service for Mr. Snyder was held Saturday, November 26, 2005 in Sugar Grove with burial in the Wesleyan Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Warren County or to the Sugar Grove Free Library.
