Mr. Earl B. “Peck” Dawson, age 92, formerly of Graystone Court, 1747 Adams Avenue, Tyrone, and a guest at Moran’s Home, Bellwood, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 12:01 a.m.
He was born March 28, 1913 in Tyrone, the son of Ernest B. and Mae I. Beaston Dawson. He was first married to Dorothy Abrams who preceded him in death and on August 6, 1951 he was married to M. Lorraine Thompson O’Brien who died January 7, 2005. He is survived by a son, William R. O’Brien and wife Sue of Tyrone and two grandchildren: Donna L. O’Brien of Tyrone and Patrick E. O’Brien and wife Leanne of O’Fallon, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by three brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Dawson was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1932. He had been employed by Penn Central Railroad as a car repairman at the Samuel Ray Shops retiring in 1974. He was a veteran of service with the United States Army during World War II in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaigns and was awarded two campaign bronze stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Ribbon and was the recipient of both the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He had been an active member of the Tyrone Fire Department for over 60 years, was a life member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, was a life member of the Tyrone Fire Police and had served as captain for a number of years. He was a member of the Tyrone Sportsmen, Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion, the Allegheny Hunting Club and had served as a trustee for Camp Anderson for a number of years.
Funeral service with flag presentation for Earl B. “Peck” Dawson will be Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor T.M. Talbot-Moses officiating. Interment will be in Blair Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
