The Tyrone junior high boys basketball teams entertained Bellwood-Antis Monday, and for the second time this season both the eighth and ninth grade teams defeated the Blue Devils 28-17 and 38-17, respectively.
Led by John Shaffer’s scrappy 16 point performance, the ninth grade Eagles used an 11-3 first quarter lead to get off to a fast start, and then traded baskets for the second quarter to go up 17-7 at the half.
Bellwood-Antis wasn’t able to make up any ground on Tyrone in the second half, as the Eagles dominated the last two quarters to win 38-17.
The win raised their regular season record to 18-1.

In the eighth grade game, the Eagles got off to a slow start in the first quarter with only two points from Jordan Taylor. But five other players got into the scoring column in the second quarter as Tyrone scored 15.
The final score was 28-17 as the Eagles picked up their 18th victory of the season.
Their record is now 18-4.
In the St. Mary’s Tournament over the weekend, the Tyrone eighth graders defeated the Bishop Guilfoyle seventh graders, and lost to the Keith eighth graders.

On Wednesday this week, the Tyrone Junior High team traveled to State College to take on Our Lady of Victory, and then to Hollidaysburg on Friday, Feb. 10 to take on the Tigers.
