The Central PA Wolves junior high ice hockey team played three times over a two-week period, winning two. Beginning with a 5-2 win over Hollidaysburg on Jan. 19, the Wolves gave up a score to the Tigers, and then poured in four goals in a row.
Jamin Solensky (Cambria Heights) tied the score with an unassisted score and Adam Erlichman (Bedford) scored a short-handed goal three minutes later to give the Wolves a 2-1 margin at the end of one period.
Nate Reid (Spring Cove) scored of an assist from Solensky, and then continuing to build the Wolves advantage, Solensky added his second goal midway through the second period.
After Hollidaysburg cut the lead to 4-2, Solensky made his hat trick with his third goal of the contest with just 16 seconds left to play.
In goal, Matt Erlichman (Bedford) stopped 16 of 18 shots for the Wolves.
Playing the undefeated Altoona junior high Mountain Lions, Central PA fell behind 5-0, on Feb. 1, before Adam Erlichman finally was able to break the scoring drought with an unassisted third period goal to complete the scoring. Matt Erlichman stopped 20 of 25 shots on goal for the Wolves.
Both the Hollidaysburg and Altoona games were played at Galactic Ice.
On Feb. 4, the Wolves traveled to Center Ice Arena in Delmont, PA, where they trounced Derry 9-2.
Adam Erlichman opened the scoring with an unassisted goal for the only score of the first period.
Stephen Yargeau scored a pair of goals for Derry, sandwiched around one by Central PA’s Jamin Solensky with as assist from Emma McCleester (Tyrone).
Erlichman came back with his second tally of the contest followed by scores by Nate Reid (Spring Cove), Solensky, Erlichman again for a hat trick, Pearl Balogh and then McCleester. Zach Bumbarger (Spring Cove) had three assists, while Reid, Solensky, and Brett Hillman (Williamsburg) had one assist each. Balogh is a foreign exchange student from Hungary, who is living with the family of teammate Aaron Keeney from Huntingdon.
