A rural Altoona man died after a Tuesday afternoon accident on Kettle Road in Tyrone Township.
State police said 74-year-old Clyde K. Loomis of RR 3, Altoona, was traveling south on the road at a slow rate of speed. His vehicle was observed drifting across the center line into the northbound lane of travel on several occasions. After rounding a curve, the vehicle drifted again into the northbound lane of travel and began to pick up speed. The vehicle then traveled back into and across the southbound lane of travel. The vehicle left the road hitting a small bump off the west berm. Upon hitting the bump, the vehicle became airborne and struck a tree with its front end before eventually coming to a rest against the tree.
Loomis was transported from the scene to the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Campus by AMED Ambulance for treatment. Loomis later died as a result of his injuries. The police press release said Loomis had a medical condition that may have contributed to the accident. Police were assisted on the scene by the Sinking Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
