One of the ways members of the community support Tyrone Hospital is by joining the hospital family as a volunteer. Members of the Tyrone Hospital family gathered to honor Tyrone Hospital’s volunteers at a luncheon held on April 24 during National Volunteer Week. Volunteers donate time to assist the hospital in a variety of departments.
“We are pleased to have members of the community involved in the hospital and helping us fulfill our healing mission,” said Walter S. Van Dyke, Chief Executive Officer at Tyrone Hospital. “They are a very dedicated group of people and they support Tyrone Hospital in a very special way.”
In 2005, volunteers donated 1,323 hours to support Tyrone Hospital as follows:
• Frances Hunter of Tyrone has been a volunteer for more than 16 years and has served in the rehab department and currently serves in the materials management department. She also supports the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary;
• Jack Swiderski of Warriors Mark has been a volunteer for more than 15 years in the operating room and also helped with a blood drive;
• Sally Swiderski of Warriors Mark has been a volunteer for more than 11 years in the business office;
• Constance Baker of Tipton has been a volunteer for more than two years in radiology, materials management, the business office and at the reception desk;
• Anna Mae Campbell of Tyrone has been a volunteer for more than two years in the marketing office and for special projects for the Tyrone Hospital Development Council;
• Nancy Hunter of Tyrone has been a volunteer for more than two years for special projects supporting a variety of departments including marketing, the emergency room, and nursing administration;
• Jayne Grove of Altoona has been a volunteer for several months assisting in the short procedure unit, the Keystone Headache and Pain Management Center, and the reception desk;
• Ronald Fletcher of Tyrone has been a volunteer for several months at the reception desk, for special projects and the blood drive and
• Kearstin Miller of Tyrone is a teen volunteer for several months on the medical surgical unit.
Theresa Yanchetz, Director of Marketing and Volunteer Services at Tyrone Hospital said all of the volunteers have been very generous and have given time beyond their regularly scheduled volunteer hours to help with special projects, events or new services.
“Many of these individuals also donate many hours to other organizations and causes close to their heart.”
