Two separate events, being held on Saturday, June 3, will raise funds to help provide transportation and Meals on Wheels to older Blair County residents.
The Sensational Striders Walk-A-Thon team will hold a yard sale on Saturday, June 3, from 8 a.m. until noon in the parking lot of Blair Senior Services at 1320 Twelfth Avenue in Altoona. Items such as furniture, books, baby clothes, household items, jewelry, baked goods and much, more will be available to purchase. All proceeds benefit the \”Miles for Meals and Wheels\” Walk-a-thon.
The Claysburg Bull Dogs Walk-A-Thon team will hold a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, June 3, starting at 4 p.m. at the Claysburg Senior Center on Bedford Street at Senior Drive. Meals can be eaten at the Center or taken out. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children, ages 3 to 10. Children 2 and under are free.
The 13th Annual Miles for Meals and Wheels Walk-A-Thon will be held at Blair County Ball Park on Saturday, September 30 from 10 a.m. until noon. All funds raised will be used right here in Blair County to provide transportation and meals for the area’s older adults. Each weekday, Blair Senior Services’ volunteers deliver meals to the homes of hundreds of older adults. In addition to providing nutritious meals, the daily contact with the volunteers serves as a safety check. Each year, Blair Senior Services’ Transportation Program provides more than 120,000 one-way trips to medical appointments, senior community centers and other places older adults need and want to go. These two programs are critical to helping maintain the health and wellbeing of our community’s older population.
