The Keystone Division of the March of Dimes is once again preparing for the annual Rubber Duck Regatta. This is the ninth year for the event, which will be held August 13 at 3 p.m. at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Tipton Waterworks.
A recent press release invited area businesses and organizations to participate by offering tickets to customers, employees and members for a donation of $5 each.
Individuals who purchase a ticket will also receive a limited edition 2006 Official Souvenir Duck. This year’s souvenir duck is sure to be a hit, dressed as a railroad engineer.
For each numbered tickets sold, a corresponding numbered duck will be entered in the race.
On Sunday, August 13, 5,000 ducks will be carried to the top of the water tower where they will be released to race down the waterslide. The owners of the first nine ducks drawn from the pool by the ambassador child will win prizes.
This year’s ambassador child is seven-year-old Dylan McCartle of Lewistown.
Prizes include at $1,000 shopping spree from Wolf Furniture; a high quality bicycle from Eddie’s Bicycle Shop, State College; Tickets for four to Delgrosso’s Amusement Park, an Altoona Curve baseball game and $100 in gas; six season passes to Dorney Park; a one night stay at Inn at Solvang, Bed and Breakfast, Huntingdon; a chocolate fountain, courtesy of Kaufmann’s; a VIP wing party, courtesy of Hooters, Altoona; a portrait package by Creations Photography and family park tickets to see Jungle Jack Hanna at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Entrants need not be present to win.
Ducks can be purchased at: M&T Banks of Blair County, Susquehanna Banks in Altoona and Bedford, Rossi’s Exxon in Tipton, Oak Spring Winery, Tipton Pharmacy, Hooters in Altoona, Knee Deep Ponds in Roaring Spring, Northwest Savings Bank in Johnstown, Somerset Trust in Johnstown, Ports Sports Emporium in Bellefonte, Applebees in State College and Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring.
The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
