First Assembly of God, located on 12th Street and Blair Avenue in Tyrone, has several special events to look forward to in the upcoming months.
The church also has special guests lined up. On August 13, Evangelist Richard Rothkind will speak at 6:30 p.m. Then, on September 17, Jeremy Sweeten, missionary to the Jewish people, will be at morning worship service.
The annual “All Church” picnic is slated for August 19 at Reservoir Park, Pavilion No. 1.
Lunch will be served at noon but individuals are encouraged to arrive early to look over and bid on silent auction items.
Everyone is asked to bring items to donate, baked goods or items for the silent auction.
Suggestions encourage participants to be creative. Maybe auction off services for a day of yard cleanup.
After the picnic costs are met, auction profits will go towards the benevolence fund.
Please bring table service and a covered dish to share. Hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls and beverages will be provided by the church.
The next men’s breakfast is scheduled for September 9 at Joe’s Place at 8 a.m.
On September 24, an “Olde Fashioned Hymn Sing” will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Also, this year, the church is planning the first ever Homecoming Sunday, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 1.
The morning speaker will be Rev. Leroy Wiley, who was pastor at First Assembly of God in Tyrone from 1969 through 1974.
Following the morning service, there will be a covered dish fellowship dinner in the fellowship hall. There will be no evening service.
It is the hope of the church that many who have moved away, including family members and those who formerly attended church, will be able to come back to visit the church family for this special day of fellowship.
There will be special music and other activities as well.
Although Rev. Wiley will be the speaker for this first homecoming event, church members extend an invitation to all former pastors to join in the festivities.
They also encourage anyone who is unable to attend the celebration, to send along words of greeting that can be shared with those in attendance.
Finally, the Fall Mission’s Banquet with Missionary Rick Wislocky will be held October 14.
