The weather may be warm, but that won’t stop Tyrone area residents from visiting DelGrosso’s Amusement Park tomorrow to enjoy this year’s annual Tyrone Area Community Day.
Everyone is invited to take part in the day’s activities, as there is something for every age to enjoy.
The day is guaranteed to be packed with fun for Tyrone area residents, and all Tyrone area youth are invited to ride and slide for free. This includes all pre-school, elementary, junior and senior high school youth (through 2007 graduation) in the Tyrone area.
Other events to be held throughout the day include a Tyrone Talent Search, a mini-golf tournament, and a chicken barbecue dinner, to name a few.
At 10 a.m. the day’s events will begin as Joshua House is scheduled to host the champion mini-golf tournament, which is open to youth in Kindergarten through 12th grades. Categories include grades: K-five, six through eight and nine through 12. Prizes will be awarded to winners in each category.
From 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Albemarle will present the ride pass distribution. This includes free all-day ride and slide passes to Tyrone’s youth. The free ride and slide bracelets can be picked up at the red and white tent next to the main ticket plaza adjacent to Murf’s patio.
At 2 p.m., children’s games are scheduled to be held at the center of the park. Kids will be able to enjoy a hula-hoop contest, scavenger hunt and much more.
At 4 p.m., there will be the “Great White Football Race”, which is new to the day’s activities this year. The football race down the “Great White Slide” will benefit Tyrone Community Day and a service project around the community. Be at the “Great White Slide” to see if your football reaches the pool first. Footballs can be purchased at the information table and at the red and white tent.
From 4 to 5:30 p.m., the delicious DelGrosso’s chicken barbecue will be held.
At 6 p.m., the Tyrone Talent Search will begin. Divisions include: preschool to fourth grade; grades five to eight; grades nine to 12; adult up to 40; adult 40 and over and groups of three or more. Prizes for each division are: first place, $100; second place, $75 and third place, $50.
During the annual Tyrone Talent Search, Marcy Behrens, who is a Tyrone native, will make a special guest appearance. She is currently starring as Lizzy Spaulding on the TV show, the Guiding Light.
The Tyrone Community Raffle, which will be held at the conclusion of the Tyrone Talent Search, is everyone’s chance to win art produced by Tyrone’s own talented artists.
Tyrone area residents also have a special chance to share their memories of the town. If anyone has vintage photos or memorabilia from the early years of Tyrone or DelGrosso’s Amusement Park (Bland’s Park), bring them to Shed No. 2 on picnic day and share them with neighbors and friends.
