Mrs. Dorothy M. Andrews, age 83, of 1757 Madison Avenue, Tyrone died at 7:52 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Altoona Regional Health Systems, Altoona Hospital Campus.
She was born July 29, 1922 in Tyrone, the daughter of George W. and Margaret Brisbin Calderwood.
On August 12, 1941 in Altoona she was married to Max O. Andrews who preceded her in death January 10, 1977.
She is survived by three children: Linda K., wife of Ben Kleindorfer of State College; Joe and wife Darlene Andrews of Oakland, MD and William M. Andrews of Altoona.
There are three grandchildren: Stacy Andersen, wife of John Ochoa of Hershey and daughter of Linda and Ben Kleindorfer; Kevin Andrews and wife Lori of Bluefield, WV and John Andrews of Arlington, VA; two great-grandchildren: Jack and Eddie Ochoa-Andersen.
Also surviving is a brother George (June) Calderwood Jr. of Tyrone and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Lawrence, Leonard and Robert.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Semper Fidelis Sunday School Class and of the Kappa Club. She was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1940 and retired in June 1991 after 33 years service with the Tyrone Area School District. She was a Supervisor of the Cafeterias for a number of years. Many will recall the cinnamon buns and banquets. She had a sharp mind and was known for her keen sense of humor. She was a loyal friend and had a strong work ethic.
Funeral service for Dorothy M. Andrews will be Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. with Reverend Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family will honor Dorothy’s requests that the casket be closed.
