The finishing touches are being put on the Tyrone Area Community Day at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, which is scheduled for a week from today.
Tickets for the chicken barbecue dinner and the Hometown Raffle are still available at several locations in the area. The dinner and the raffle will be held at the park on Friday, Aug. 4 along with all the other community day events.
Cost for the dinner is $7 and tickets can be purchased at The Daily Herald offices, the Tyrone Area Chamber office, the Tyrone Borough office, at the park as well as through Tyrone Kiwanis members. The dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the park. A limited number of dinners will be available at the park the day of the event, but advance purchase is best so the park staff may know how many dinners to prepare. Deadline for purchase of chicken barbecue tickets is Monday, July 31.
The Hometown Raffle is a chance for folks to win art/home crafts produced by their talented friends and neighbors. Items may be submitted in person to The Daily Herald offices located at 1067 Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Tyrone during regular business hours.
Area crafters and artists are being urged to participate in this event to ensure its success. The deadline to submit items at The Herald has been extended until Wednesday, Aug. 2 to allow crafters and artists more time to prepare their contributions. The items will be on display in The Herald’s front window next week and at the park next Friday. The raffle will be held at the conclusion of the Star Search talent competition next Friday evening.
Raffle tickets are available at The Herald offices, the Chamber, the Borough offices, G & P Dollar Stretcher, the park and through Kiwanis members. Raffle tickets will also be sold the day of the event at the park. The proceeds from the raffle will be used to fund future activities for The Tyrone Community Day at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park.
New to this year’s event is the Star Search competition. It is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. There will be several divisions including preschool through fourth grade, fifth grade through eighth grade, ninth through 12th grade, adults up to age 40, adults over 40 and groups (three or more). For more information, contact Jim Kilmartin at “Star Search Headquarters” at 684-2032.
The day also features free waterworks, rapids and rides for Tyrone area youth courtesy of Albemarle. All pre-school, elementary, junior and senior high school youth (through 2006 graduation) in the Tyrone area are invited. Bracelets will be distributed from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the red and white tent next to the main ticket plaza, adjacent to Murf’s patio.
The Tyrone Area Community Day will also feature a Championship Golf Tournament open to youth grades kindergarten to 12th grade. The tournament presented by Joshua House starts at 10 a.m.
Also new this year, Epworth Manor will be providing transportation from Tyrone to DelGrosso’s Amusement Park for Tyrone Area Community Day on Friday, Aug. 4.
The transportation is available for individuals who reside at Epworth Manor, Pennsylvania House, Graystone Court and 12th Street Apartments. The transportation will also be provided for the guests of individuals who reside at those facilities.
A shuttle will pick up passengers at each location between 4 and 5 p.m. and return between 7 and 8 p.m. Pick-up will be at the main entrance of each location.
