A 56-year-old Altoona woman, Kathryn Ann Blackburn, was killed in a two-vehicle accident on State Route 220, three miles north of State Route 350 in Snyder Township, yesterday at 5:45 a.m.
Police said 42-year-old Jeffrey Allen Rhian of Cogan Station, PA was southbound on the road while Blackburn was driving northbound.
State police said they believe Rhian may have suffered a seizure or fell asleep and his van crossed into the northbound lane and hit Blackburn’s car head-on. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Rhian was found to be suffering from a seizure after the accident. He was treated for a minor injury and a complaint of pain. Rhian was not wearing a seat belt. Police said Blackburn was wearing her seat belt.
Both vehicles had severe front-end damage. Traffic was stopped for several hours due to the accident.
Bald Eagle Fire Company assisted at the scene and re-routed traffic. Police said their investigation was continuing as of their release yesterday.
