Tyrone Renaissance
The Tyrone Middle and High School Renaissance would like to encourage grandparents to come and help out with the sundae bars for the students’ good grades. If interested, please call 684-4240 ext. 1.

Chicken barbecue
A chicken barbecue dinner will be held at the Tyrone Masonic Lodge on Saturday, September 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner will be served with applesauce, baked beans, a roll and butter.
There will be a limited number of walk-ins. Eat in or take out. Benefits the Tyrone Masonic Hall Association.

Sporting Clays Fun Shoot
Sporting Clays Fun Shoot to benefit Future Farmers of America will be held Sunday, September 24 beginning at noon. Fifty targets Lewis Class.
Celebrating 78 years of FFA, proceeds will be used for FFA projects and scholarships.
There is a fee to enter. Options, shooting games and lunch will be available. Trophies will be awarded by Lewis Class.

Brungart Family Singers
The Brungart Family of singers from Howard will present a Gospel music concert at the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren on Sunday evening, September 24 at 7 p.m. The family has been touring for many years.
There is no admission charge but an appreciation offering will be taken. The church is located one mile north of Warriors Mark on Ridge Road. Come and enjoy the evening.

For Railroad fans!
A special, private-car train will pass through Tyrone by way of the Nittany Bald Eagle Branch on Sunday, September 24 and is expected to arrive near the Tyrone Station around 3:30 p.m. A short time later, the passenger railcars will be split into two sections — westbound and eastbound — to travel on the main line. Keep watching for more information.

B-A Historical Society
A meeting and picnic for the Bellwood-Antis Historical Society will be held Monday, September 25 at 6 p.m. at the home of Joann Patterson, 411 N. First Street, Bellwood.

DCWV
The September meeting of the Descendants of Civil War Veterans will take place on Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m. at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library. The presenter will be Mr. Bob Broadwater who will speak on the history of the 62nd Regiment, Company M of the Pennsylvania Volunteers and what has become of their flag. The public is invited to attend.

Bellwood Eagles Auxiliary
Bellwood Eagles Auxiliary will hold their birthday dinner on September 27 at 6 p.m. Bring a covered dish, table service and one guest.

Class of 1952
The Tyrone High School class of 1952 will hold a luncheon at Joe’s Place, Vail, on Thursday, September 28 at noon. All classmates and guests are welcome.
Farm/City Day
Rotary Club of Tyrone’s 23rd annual Farm/City Day will be held Saturday, September 30 at Reservoir Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Reservations for booths are now being accepted, including food, crafts, display or promotional. Call Bud Boom at 931-9152 for more information. There will be a live petting zoo, entertainment, food, hay wagon rides and fun. Tickets for the chicken barbecue can be purchased in advance from any Rotarian, Kelly Wike’s State Farm office or the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce office.

TACO youth football competition
TACO will be holding a youth football competition on Sunday, October 1 at Ferner Field. Sign up will be at 1 p.m. and the competition will start at 2 p.m. The age groups for boys and girls are five to six; seven to eight; nine to 10 and 11 to 12. Please wear sneakers only, no cleats. Rain date will be October 8.

Chicago Rivet retirees
The Chicago Rivet retirees will hold their monthly breakfast at Joe’s Place at 8:30 a.m.
Meetings are scheduled for the rest of the year, including October 12, November 9 and December 14.

Octoberfest
Octoberfest will be held at the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Artisans, crafters and vendors are wanted to sell their artwork, crafts, handwork, etc. Registration deadline for table space is October 13. Call 632-6906.

TACO Halloween parade
TACO Halloween parade will be held Tuesday, October 17 at 6 p.m. Registration for the costume judging will start at 4:30 p.m. at the Tyrone highway Dept. Parade line up will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the Highway Dept.
If interested in taking part in the parade, call Tim Kirkpatrick at 684-0704. The rain date will be October 24.

Light the Night
Mom and dad, kids of all ages come to “Light the Night”, October 26, from 6-8 p.m. “Light the Night” is a safe and supervised Halloween night environment. Games, prizes, puppets, face painting, candy, hotdogs, hot popcorn and beverages, all will be provided free. “Light the Night” will be in the parking lot behind Burger King, and is sponsored by First Assembly of God Church.

Master Beekeeper
Master Beekeeper will make educational and informative presentation to a class or group on honeybees and beekeeping. For more information, call 684-1783.

Bible study class
The Tyrone Church of the Brethren has added a Saturday morning Bible study to its educational opportunities. The class is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Preschool openings
A Child’s Garden Preschool, located at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, has a few openings for children ages three to five-years-old, for the 2006-07 school year.

Tyrone Salvation Army now open
The Tyrone Salvation Army is now open at its new location at 908 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Tyrone Salvation Army always accepts clothing and food items. It also accepts appliances, bedding, etc. It is currently in need of children’s clothing.
Monetary contributions can be mailed to: Salvation Army Service Center, P.O. Box 142 Tyrone, PA 16686 and can also be dropped off at the 908 Pennsylvania Avenue location. The phone number is 684-1664.
Home Nursing Agency holds grief support group
Home Nursing Agency is holding a grief support group designed for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Join the Agency’s grief counselors as they discuss and share with others who are experiencing similar situations.
The group will meet the first Sunday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m. through December 3. The meetings will be held in Altoona at Home Nursing Agency’s office located at 215 Lakemont Blvd., by the Casino. Parking is available in ‘Lot D’. WMUMC Preschool
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church Preschool, located at 1840 Centre Line Rd., Warriors Mark, is now enrolling students for the 2006-07 school year. The preschool provides a loving, creative learning environment for a child’s first preschool experience.
Programs are offered for three, four and five-year-olds, which runs September through May. Three-year-olds attend class two days a week on Tuesday and Thursday and four and five-year-olds attend class three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Call 632-6906 for more information or to obtain a registration packet.

Singles 45 Plus
Singles 45 Plus meets every third Tuesday of the month. Interested individuals are invited to come for a meal and to socialize. Those attending would be responsible for their dinner, drinks or desserts.
Meetings are held at King’s Restaurant, 6th Avenue and 31st Street.

Breaking Bread Ministry
The Church of the Good Shepherd wants those within the community and surrounding areas to know that Breaking Bread Ministry is on-going, not just during the Lenten season. One has only to inquire at the church or call 684-1955 between 9 a.m. and noon during the week to confirm Breaking Bread Ministry is open to all and eager to support those who request this service. The Church of the Good Shepherd has selected this ministry as a way to provide assistance, and is finding that Breaking Bread Ministry is becoming of growing interest throughout the area.

Presbyterian preschool
Individuals are invited to register their children now at the Presbyterian Preschool on Logan Avenue and 13th Street.
Presbyterian preschool has provided classes for the three and four-year-old children of the community since 1969. The 2006 fall term begins their 37th year. Call 684-2003 for information about the program and to schedule a visit.

Brain Injury support group
The Brain Injury Support Group meets the second Thursday of every month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona, 2005 Valley View Blvd., Altoona.
