Public walking
Public walking at the Tyrone High School has once again started for the winter season. Walkers are invited to walk Monday through Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be no walking when school is not in session. Running is not permitted. Children must be supervised. Rubber-tired strollers only.

Buffet dinner
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church, will host a buffet dinner on Friday, November 3 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The dinner will feature deep fried and baked fish, ham and green bean bake, vegetable mix, baked macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, creamy cole slaw, roll and fruit salad. Children ages four and under eat for free. The Warriors Mark UM Church is handicapped accessible. Anyone with questions can contact the church office at 632-6906.

New York City bus trip
A bus trip to New York City is scheduled for Saturday, November 4, sponsored by Mountain Laurel Daycare and Preschool. Call 742-0858 for details.

Bazaar
A bazaar, bake sale, vegetable soup and sandwich and yard sale will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 4 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Also, the Jr. youth group will hold an apple dumpling sale during the bazaar on Saturday from 9 to 12:30 p.m.

Fall bazaar
The Port Matilda United Methodist Church (corner of Main and Church St.) is hosting a fall bazaar on Saturday, November 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring handmade crafts and themed gift baskets, white elephant item, bake sale and the best luncheon in town.
Menu includes sloppy joes, hot dogs and sauerkraut, grilled chicken sandwich, chicken corn soup, ham and bean soup, macaroni salad, coleslaw, baked beans and homemade desserts.

Nami Blair meeting
Nami Blair (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill) will meet November 7 at 7 p.m. at 701 Quail Avenue Altoona. \”Living with Mental illness\” will include discussion as to why is society unable to accept my mental illness? Will I always be subject to ridicule and why do I face fear, rejection discrimantion. If this sounds like you, than this meeting is a must. Acceptance of mental illness does not mean we like it, but having a mental disorder is no different than having any other illness. Mental illness is a devasating disease that affect hundreds of children and adults in Blair County. Nami Blair County is comprised of persons with mental illness and their families,friends, and professional, all of whom are dedicated to improving the lives of and services to persons who must learn to cope every day. AARP class
Reduce your auto insurance by five percent the next three years by attending two, four hour classroom sessions. Learn how to avoid driving hazards and learn about updates to the latest traffic laws. There is not a test. To qualify for the insurance discount, participants must be 55-years-old and both husband and wife need to attend if they are on the same policy. Classes will be held at Epworth Manor on November 7 and 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. Contact Melissa Harpster at 686-2650 for enrollment. Space is limited. This is the last class until spring.

Niagara Falls and Casino
A Niagara Falls and casino bus trip, sponsored by St. Matthew’s Catholic Church will be held November 8 and 9. For more information, call Leona Haag at 684-2368.

Chicago Rivet retirees
The Chicago Rivet retirees will hold their monthly breakfast at Joe’s Place at 8:30 a.m. Meetings are scheduled for the rest of the year, including November 9 and December 14.

Holiday bazaar
A holiday bazaar, yard sale and country store to benefit Tyrone Chapter No. 288 OES will be held Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Tyrone Masonic Hall. There will be Christmas and household items along with clothing in good condition. There will be something for everyone.

Craft show
Wesley United Methodist Church is hosting a craft show on Saturday, November 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Hot dogs and sauerkraut, ham barbecue, sloppy joes, chili, ham and bean soup, soda and coffee will be provided by the United Methodist women. Orders will also be taken for nine-inch pies from the Pie Shop. Questions or pie orders are being handled through the church office. Call 684-3341.

Theme basket auction
The Christ United Methodist Church, 14th Street & Pa. Avenue Tyrone, is hosting a Theme Basket Auction on Sunday November 12. It will be held in the Education Unit of the Church beginning at 1 p.m. Church members are busy creating wonderful baskets, in a wide variety of themes, for the event. The Church members would like to invite all to come & enjoy. Bring a friend or two. Light refreshments will be available. Proceeds will benefit the Ways & Means Committee and ongoing projects at the Church.

\”Mortgage Burning Service\”
First Assembly of God, 12th St., and Blair Avenue, Tyrone, is now debt free, this only eleven years after their new building was erected in 1995. A mortgage burning service will be held Sunday, November 12, at 10:30 a.m. The special speaker for this service will be Rev. Stephen Tourville, Superintendent of the Pennsylvania Delaware District of the Assemblies of God. The public is invited to attend this service of celebration.
Holiday bazaar
A holiday bazaar will be held at the Warriors Mark Fire Hall, Route 550, on Saturday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be crafts, baked goods and homemade soup. Lunch will be available.

High Tea at Trinity Episcopal Church
Purple Iris, one of the last of artist Andy Moore’s water colors, will be featured at the third annual High Tea at the Trinity Episcopal Church. The gorgeous painting, which is 15 inches by 25 inches, will be offered in a raffle. The painting was previously on display at the Tyrone Hospital and was left to the church by Andy to use as a fundraiser. Andy, who died in late May, was a well-known artist previously living in Birmingham. This is the last of Andy’s works to be offered to the public.
The popular high tea will take place on December 2 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue. Tickets for this event are sold out, but individuals are still encouraged to purchases chances for the original painting by Andy Moore. Tickets for chances may be obtained from any church member or by calling Honey Wilson at 684-2055.

B-A AARP
The Bellwood-Antis AARP Chapter No. 1063 will hold its Christmas party Wednesday, December 13, at the Trinity United Methodist Church at noon. Tickets go on sale at the November 8 AARP meeting at 1 p.m. or by calling 742-7276 or 742-7882. The last day for tickets are December 9. Anyone may come to the Christmas dinner. Those attending are asked to bring a food item for the food bank.
The next AARP meeting is Wednesday, January 10 at the Bellwood-Antis Senior Center at 1 p.m.

Tyrone Renaissance
The Tyrone Middle and High School Renaissance would like to encourage grandparents to come and help out with the sundae bars for the students’ good grades. If interested, please call 684-4240 ext. 1.

Master Beekeeper
Master Beekeeper will make educational and informative presentations to a class or group on honeybees and beekeeping. For more information, call 684-1783.

Bible study class
The Tyrone Church of the Brethren has added a Saturday morning Bible study to its educational opportunities. The class is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Preschool openings
A Child’s Garden Preschool, located at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, has a few openings for children ages three to five-years-old, for the 2006-07 school year.
