Tyrone Salvation Army
The Tyrone Salvation Army Service Center will be closed through November 23 due to Thanksgiving activities they will be involved in. The center will be open November 27 during regular hours.

Thanksgiving dinner
Once again, DJ’s Cafe in Tyrone will provide the community with a free Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day. Staff and volunteers prepare all the meals on-site and then deliver them free of charge to families. Families are also welcome to join the staff at DJ’s for a sit down, home-cooked meal.
The Thanksgiving meal includes: roasted turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, corn, cranberry sauce, roll and butter, dessert and milk. Those interested in ordering a meal should call 684-7851 or visit DJ’s at 2068 Columbia Ave. in Tyrone.

Home alone?
Once again this year, the Morning Star Restaurant in Bellwood is offering a traditional Thanksgiving meal for those in the community who might otherwise be alone on the holiday. The meal will be served Thursday, Nov. 23 at 11:30 a.m. at the restaurant. The meal is free. Those interested in attending should contact the restaurant at 742-9100 or by stopping at the restaurant located at 400 Main Street prior to Thursday.

Kiwanis coat/toy drive
Members of the Tyrone Kiwanis Club will conduct their 11th annual coat drive on Saturday, November 25 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Reclamere parking lot on Pennsylvania Avenue. Please note the new collection site. Items needed include: infant, children and adult coats, winter hats, boots, mittens and gloves.
In addition, the Tyrone Kiwanis Club announced they will also be taking donations of new unwrapped toys to be distributed to local families during the upcoming Christmas holiday season.
The Tyrone Kiwanis Club members want to thank the local residents for the outstanding response they have provided in the past for the drives. The Club knows the local community will come through again this year for local families and friends.

Tree Decorating Contest
Once again this year, as part of The Tyrone Victorian Christmas, a tree decorating contest has been scheduled. A “walkway of trees” will be held at the Tyrone Armory. The contest is open to businesses, clubs, organizations, individuals, families and anyone else who may want to participate.
All trees must be artificial. The Tyrone Victorian Christmas Committee has 20 trees that can be used on a first-call basis. The trees can be put up and decorated between Nov. 27 and Nov. 30, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. All trees must be decorated by 3 p.m. on Nov. 30.
Trees will be judged in five categories: Victorian, Best of Show, Best in Representation of Business, Club or Organization, Most Original and Most Traditional.
Trees can be taken down between Dec. 4 and 7 from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Committee noted that it cannot be responsible for items on a tree. Participants may want to avoid using heirloom items as decorations. To register for the contest, contact Scott Collinash at 814-684-0517.

B-A Historical Society
A meeting of the Bellwood Antis Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 27 at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library. A descendant of Tommy Coleman will be speaking. The public is invited.
Meet the Eagles
The Tyrone Basketball Booster Club is sponsoring a Meet the Eagles event on Tuesday, November 28 at 7 p.m. in the High School gymnasium. Individuals will get a chance to meet the Tyrone basketball players, grades seven through 12, and their coaches. Come out and show support for these athletes. There will also be order forms for the Tyrone basketball apparel.

Soup sampling
The Tyrone Community Partnership announce the seventh annual soup sampling to be held Thursday, November 30 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Tyrone Armory.
Eight to 10 of the area’s finest restaurants will be offering samples of their favorite soup. Come enjoy as many of the soups as you would like and then vote for your favorite. There will also be desserts and beverages available.

Yuletyme Christmas Parade and Celebration
Everyone is invited to participate in the Eighth Annual Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Celebration sponsored by the Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Committee and the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce. The Annual Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Parade is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1. A tree lighting is scheduled just before the parade at 6 p.m. The parade will commence at 6:15 p.m.
Immediately following the parade, join Santa for hot chocolate and cookies. The visit with Santa will be held at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory.
The bad weather date is Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. The events will also be moved to Saturday, Dec. 2 if there is a conflict with Tyrone Area Football on the evening of Dec. 1.
The Eighth Annual Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Craft Show is scheduled for Saturday, December 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors will enjoy holiday shopping through the craft show and the shops in Tyrone. Fun-filled activities begin Thursday and Friday evening which lead up to Saturday’s events, including: carriage rides, a tree decorating contest, children’s crafts and activities, food vendors and entertainment.
Can goods collected at parade
Girl Scout troop 1210 will be collecting can goods along the parade route. The girls are working on their Silver Award and the Tyrone Food Bank is their community service. The truck will be decorated by the girls. Please bring can goods and help the less fortunate that might not be able to buy food. Any local businesses that would like to donate food may do so and the troop will pick it up. The food bank is located at the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Buffet dinner
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church will host a buffet dinner on Friday, December 1, 2006 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The dinner will feature Swiss steak, meat loaf, baked beans, scalloped potatoes, stuffing, gravy (plain and onion), tossed salad and cottage cheese with peaches. The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church is handicapped accessible. Anyone with questions may call the church office at 632-6906.

Breakfast With Santa
The Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Fourth Annual “Breakfast” with Santa at Tyrone Colonial Courtyard on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. Santa will have goodies for each child. Tickets can be purchased at the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce office, 1004 Logan Ave., Tyrone, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information about “Breakfast With Santa” contact the Chamber at 684-0736.

Allegheny Chorale concerts
The Allegheny Chorale has announced its holiday concerts for December 5 at 7 p.m. at Tipton Baptist Church and December 12 at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tyrone. All are welcome to attend.

Bellwood Quilting Bees
The Bellwood Quilting Bees will host a Holiday Open House on Thursday, Dec. 7, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bellwood-Antis Library on Main Street.
Refreshments will be available and quilted items by the members will be displayed. Everyone is welcome. For more information, contact, Mary Lou at 742-9827.
