The Central Pennsylvania Humane Society will again offer a great way to help homeless animals this holiday season without actually adopting them. CPHS is kicking off a special “Sponsor a Pet for the Holidays” campaign involving direct donations for specific animals at the shelter.
For $100 (or more), individuals, families, businesses, office workers or groups of friends can sponsor a CPHS “resident” animal throughout the holiday season. The money will go directly to feed and care for that particular animal. In return for the donation, CPHS will post a flier on each sponsored animals’ cage that notes the sponsorship (it can be directly attributed to the sponsor or “in memory” or “in honor” of a person (or animal) of their choice.
The campaign kicks off just before Thanksgiving and runs through January.
“It’s a great way for people to help us get through this time of year and meet the high cost of utilities and gas for our vehicles,” notes CPHS Director of Fundraising/Public Relations, Dave Hopkins. “It’s kind of like being an “absentee adopter with the benefits going to that particular cat or dog.”
Sponsorships are available for any of the animals (about 60) currently housed at the shelter while they wait for new homes.
People interested in sponsoring can choose a particular animal if they like of allow the shelter to choose. The shelter staff will place the flier on his/her cage. If the pet is adopted, the flier will move to another cage to denote the continuing sponsorship.
