HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (AP) — The family of a volunteer firefighter who was killed in a barroom fight sued the bar where the fight occurred.
Ray Stringer, 43, who was the chief of the Neptune Volunteer Fire Department in Tyrone, died of a brain injury caused by blows to the head during the August 2005 bar fight in Nanty Glo. Stringer was attending a firemen’s convention.
George T. Lightcap IV, 30, of Nanty Glo, who punched Stringer, is serving a 5 1/2- to 20-year prison sentence for aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars club in Nanty Glo should not have served alcohol to Lightcap because he was already drunk and showed signs of violence, according to the lawsuit.
The commander of the post was not available for comment.
