Everyone is invited to participate in the Eighth Annual Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Celebration sponsored by the Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Committee and the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce.
Once again this year, as part of The Tyrone Victorian Christmas, a tree decorating contest has been scheduled.
A “walkway of trees” will be held at the Tyrone Armory. The contest is open to businesses, clubs, organizations, individuals, families and anyone else who may want to participate.
All trees must be artificial. The Tyrone Victorian Christmas Committee has 20 trees that can be used on a first-call basis.
The trees can be put up and decorated between Nov. 27 and Nov. 30, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. All trees must be decorated by 3 p.m. on Nov. 30.
Trees will be judged in five categories: Victorian, Best of Show, Best in Representation of Business, Club or Organization, Most Original and Most Traditional.
Trees can be taken down between Dec. 4 and 7 from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Committee noted that it cannot be responsible for items on a tree. Participants may want to avoid using heirloom items as decorations.
To register for the contest, contact Scott Collinash at 684-0517.
The Tyrone Community Partnership has announced its seventh annual soup sampling to be held Thursday, November 30 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Tyrone Armory.
Eight to 10 of the area’s finest restaurants will be offering samples of their favorite soup. Come enjoy as many of the soups as you would like and then vote for your favorite. There will also be desserts and beverages available.
The Annual Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Parade is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1. A tree lighting is scheduled just before the parade at 6 p.m. The parade will commence at 6:15 p.m.
Immediately following the parade, join Santa for hot chocolate and cookies. The visit with Santa will be held at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory. The bad weather date is Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m.
The Eighth Annual Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas Craft Show is scheduled for Saturday, December 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors will enjoy holiday shopping through the craft show and the shops in Tyrone. Fun-filled activities begin Thursday and Friday evening which lead up to Saturday’s events, including: carriage rides, children’s crafts and activities, food vendors and entertainment.
Also, the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Fourth Annual “Breakfast” with Santa at Tyrone Colonial Courtyard on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. Santa will have goodies for each child. The cost is $5. The event is free for children ages 2 and under.

The Colonel Crowther Foundation will present a living history program at Wesley United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 2, as part of Tyrone Yuletyme Christmas. The program will be presented using two of the basement rooms of the church between noon and 5 p.m. Entry will be through the door on the 12th Street side of the church.
Christmas in 1862 as might have been experienced by the James and Sarah Crowther family will be the focus of the program. Colonel Crowther was not home for that Christmas. He was on duty at Falmouth, Virginia. He did write to his wife telling her how Christmas was celebrated in camp.
A civilian Christmas is the first part of the program. Living historians will present various aspects of Christmas as experienced by civilian members of the Tyrone community in 1862. A tabletop Christmas tree decorated with trimmings used at the time, original Christmas issues of Harper’s Weekly newspaper, and other interesting items will be on display.
The second part of the program presents Christmas in the Union Army camp at Falmouth, Virginia. Visitors will be able to sample the Christmas meal Colonel Crowther described to his wife. Living historians will read passages from actual letters written by soldiers describing their Christmas experience.
Attendance is free to the general public. A donation to The Colonel Crowther Foundation will be appreciated.
