The Tyrone Regional Arts Council’s Summer Concert Series will continue with the sounds of jazz and big band music on Sunday, August 12.
The Lou Stein Jazz Band will perform at the Reservoir Park Amphitheater at 6 p.m.
Lou Stein, a native of the Pittsburgh area, has performed with many famous musicians, including Patty Page, Tony Bennett, Connie Stevens, and Bob Hope. He has also appeared with the bands of Woody Herman, Lawrence Welk, Stan Kenton, and Dorsey Brothers.
He received his music training at the Berkeley School of Music in California and the Chicago Conservatory of Music. He was also a student of C.C. Cutheridge of the Boston Pops.
While serving in the military, Stein participated in the President’s Band, which toured 26 countries.
Performing with Stein is Jerry Melega. Melega is also from the Pittsburgh area and received his music training at the Berkeley School of Music in Boston. Melega, a world-renowned jazz pianist, toured as a member of the Army Band.
Melega is also the featured vocalist with Stein who has had a career that included appearances with Glenn Miller Orchestra, Jimmy Dorsey, Mel Torme, Jerry Vale, and Eddie Fisher. His experience extends from city nightclubs to the recording studios.
Concerts are free of charge. Audience members should bring a chair or blanket for seating.
In the event of rain, Summer Sunday Concerts will be moved to the First English Lutheran Church, on the corner of Logan Avenue and 13th Street.
The Summer Concert Series is made possible by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Tyrone Borough.
