Mr. James Russell “Red” Gross, age 89, formerly of 1850 Madison Avenue, Tyrone and a guest at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, died Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 12:05 a.m. He was born April 12, 1917 in Summerfield (Fayette County), the son of Frank Wion and Lily Way Gross. On August 6, 1938 he was married to Grace A. Walk who preceded him in death April 11, 2006 ending a marriage of 68 years. He is survived by a granddaughter, Lisa C. Liston (Gary), Greensburg, two great-granddaughters, Ashley M. Vinck and Sarah L. Vinck, both of Greensburg and many loving nieces and nephews. His son, James R. Gross Jr. preceded him in death as well as sisters Mary Hipple, Frances Kinisley, Mable Rumberger, Louise Linger and Winifred Reese and brother William Gross. He was the last of his immediate family.
He was of the Protestant faith and retired as owner and operator of the Atlantic Service Station at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Funeral service for Mr. Gross will be held Friday, December 22, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Gerry Gardner officiating. Interment will be made at the Friends Cemetery, Centre Line. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday morning from 10 until the 11 a.m. service. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Autism Society of Westmoreland County, c/o Jackie Fawcett, 1440 Colony Drive, Greensburg, Pa. 15601.
