The Tyrone Little Golden Eagle junior high football team slammed Huntingdon 45-7 for their third straight triumph on Thursday at Gray-Vets Memorial Field.
Caleb Snyder scored three TDs, including a 63-yard punt return and the Eagles dominated on defense to keep their perfect streak intact.
Snyder rushed for 83 yards on 11 carries and scored on one-yard and 16-yard runs from scrimmage and added a pair of two-point PAT rushes.
Special teams and defense played a big part of the victory, with Christian Getz returning an interception 15 yards for a score. Charles Wilson Adams had a pick, Shaquelle Williams recovered a Huntingdon fumble, Courtland Pennabaker had two sacks and the Eagles had a total of six tackles behind the line of scrimmage for losses.
In addition to Snyder, Getz had 39 yards on just four carries, Pennabaker added four totes for 38 yards, John Romano had nine carries for 46 yards and a TD and Nick Romano also had a score to go with 45 yards on seven carries, as the Tyrone junior high rushed for 251 yards.
John Romano scored on a three-yard run in the third quarter and had a two-point PAT following Snyder’s 16-yard score in the second quarter. Nick Romano scored from three yards in the fourth quarter. James Dorminy kicked an extra point and Jacob Dorminy rushed for a two-point conversion, after the two second-half scores.
Trevor Oestrich scored the lone TD for Huntingdon in the final two minutes of the game, and Colton Neubaver kicked the PAT.
“The kids were really focused, they executed really well on both sides of the ball,” said Tyrone junior high coach Dan Plummer. “I was pleased with all aspects of the game-offense, defense, special teams. This is the first time in three years, we have been unbeaten after our first three games. I hope that we can take the momentum into next week’s game against Quad-A school Central Mountain.
