The Tyrone golf team added two in the win column Thursday afternoon, at Nittany Country Club, near Bellefonte.
They did so with a solid team effort posting their best team performance in recent years. (313)
At the same time Jimmy Ferguson’s sizzling -6 under par 66 set a new Tyrone High school record.
“The team performed really well,” said coach Greg Ferguson. “I set a challenge for them on the way to the match and gave them a number to shoot for, and gave them the last three matches to accomplish it; they shattered the number by 24 shots. I’m really proud of the kids, that was a really rewarding day for me as their coach, and Jimmy setting the new school record, Wow, what a day, simply awesome is how I feel, proud all the way around.”
Eric Loose shot 80, his best day in his high school career, James Russell carded an 83, “He is getting better each match and Ronnie Garbinsky’s 84 was also his personal best. Kyle Updyke posted 89 with one bad hole to fall short of the top four and Jordan Taylor, who struggled with the driver, posted 97.”
Altoona posted a score of 341, led by Kevin Foose- 80. Bellefonte, with 369, was led by Seth Elder and Robbie Proper – 91 and Huntingdon with 370, was led by Ryan McGill – 90.
“We will have to keep working at it, this will not be an easy thing for us to repeat,” aid Coach Ferguson. “We work hard on the short game, and days like today reward you for the proper kind of practice, but we will have to stay at it each and every practice!”
Next match for the Eagles will be a make up with Bellwood-Antis on Tuesday, Sept. 16, followed by Penns Valley and Central on Wednesday the 17. Tyrone and Central should go in to this match tied for first in the Nittany Division of the Mountain Conference, both matches will be held at Sinking Valley Country Club.
