The Antis Township Board of Supervisors held its monthly meeting last week.
Besides routine business, the board opened sealed bids for stone and anti-skid supplies.
Hawbaker had the lowest bids all the way around, over New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. and Grannas Brothers.
The board approved Ordinance No. 1-2007, regarding small wind turbines, which was previously advertised. They also approved Ordinance No. 2-2007 – Bellwood Borough Authority Guarantee ordinance.
The Antis Township Planning Commission made several recommendations to the board regarding various land development issues.
First up was a lot line change for Nancy and Wayne McFarland who own lots off of Becker Road. The board approved the chance in the property line.
They also approved a minor subdivision for the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, St. Mary’s Parish on Brush Mountain Road for a recreation area.
Next up was the Myers Elementary School building project.
After discussing several issues including parking lots, drive way entrances and drainage, among other things, the board granted conditional approval pending compliance with all marked issues.
The board also heard from representatives of Balfurd regarding the addition of a shipping/receiving area, with the expansion of an existing loading dock.
Problems arose because the expansion may force larger trucks loading at the business to back up on township roadways.
While the board and Balfurd’s tried to come up with a feasible solution, but no definite alternative was decided upon.
The board granted approval for the addition with conditions but denied the waiver, requesting the right to turn around on the roadway.
Sergeant John Romeo of the PA State Police also presented a brief report to the board. He said the state police responded to 1,250 calls in Antis Township in 2006. Supervisor Charles Taylor asked about a large amount of burglaries recently within the township. Sergeant Romeo said there was a Tyrone man in custody following a recent crime spree, which the sergeant said would clear up approximately 20 cases in the township from late 2006 to early 2007.
Also, interviews were held for the secretary position that opened in December following the resignation of Linda Kimmen, after 22 years of service At the December township meeting, Supervisor Bob Smith noted the board accepted Kimmen’s resignation with regret but are appreciative of the years she spent with the township and they all wish her well. Manager Jeff Ziegler was appointed to fill in as interim secretary/treasurer until the position is filled.
