The Tyrone Golden Eagles have one wrestler remaining at the PIAA State Wrestling Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Freshman A.J. Schopp (38-3) won his preliminary match by 6-0 shutout over Bethlehem Catholic sophomore Bryan Smith (35-9), the Southeast Region fourth place finisher.
Schopp, the Southwest Region champion will wrestle Derek Leiby (32-7), a sophomore from Troy High School, who was the third place finisher from the Northeast Region, in the quarterfinal round which began this morning at 9 a.m.
The Eagle’s senior 125-pound T.J. Albright (32-12) saw his illustrious high school career come to an end when he lost two matches to fall from the tournament.
Albright opened his tournament by falling to Andrew Arnold (37-3), a senior from Northern Lehigh, who was the Southeast Region runner-up, by a 9-3 score.
In his first round consolation match Albright lost a 4-2 ultimate tiebreaker rideout to Victor Konno (30-15) of Northwest Lehigh, the fifth place finisher from the Southeast region.
The semifinals end third round consolations will begin at 6:30 p.m. this evening with fourth round consolations to follow at 9 p.m.
Double-A third, fifth and seventh place consolation finals will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon with championship finals beginning at 2:30 p.m.
