The Tyrone girls softball team is making improvements in small increments in 2007. Facing a ton of quality teams on the schedule, the Lady Eagles dropped a 14-1 decision to defending district 6 champ Philipsburg-Osceola on Tuesday at the Harry K. Sickler Athletic Complex. Tyrone, who are thin in pitching, has not been helped by the inclement weather forcing postponed games to be played back-to-back.
“We played Philipsburg better this time than we did a month ago.” said Tyrone softball coach Lois Loncher, referring to the first meeting between these two schools, which P-O ended 17-0 after just two and 1/2 innings, with the Lady Eagles getting no-hit.
Although the final score seemed to indicate that Philipsburg-Osceola dominated throughout, Tyrone trailed just 7-1, until P-O scored once in the sixth and six more times in the seventh to run away with the win.
Lady Mountie catcher, Abby Peangatelli had the only extra-base hit, a triple, and two RBI. Freshman Taylor Harpster and sophomore Katie Confer each had three RBI for P-O, and freshman Kelsey Gonder added two more.
Lindsey Christine and Casie Glashauser were the only two Lady Eagles to get base hits against Lady Mountie ace Brittany Murphy, who fanned nine and didn’t walk a batter.
Tyrone divided the pitching chores between Megan Turiano, who pitched four and 2/3 innings, and Brooke Garbinsky, who pitched three and 1/3 innings.
Tyrone (1-11) will travel to Lewistown, Thursday, for the rematch against the Lady Panthers at 4:30 p.m.
