Elizabeth Tepsic, daughter of Kathleen and Austin Tepsic will attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the fall and was awarded an Athletic Scholarship in the sport of Women’s Track & Field.
Liz is the second Tyrone track and field star to be awarded a scholarship in the last two years joining last years state champion, Emily Ingle is attending Robert Morris on a track and field scholarship.
“I plan to major in Accounting,” Liz said. “I was impressed by the friendly atmosphere and academics at IUP. It is not too far away but far enough and I just love it!
“Liz not only brings to the IUP campus outstanding athlete ability,” Coach Yaniello said, “but has excelled academically as well.”
Her track and field achievements are as followed: School record holder in the 100 Hurdles, Two-time Altoona Mirror Track & Field All-Star, Two-time participant in the PIAA Class AA State Championship including advancing to semifinals in the 100 hurdles and placing sixth in the triple jump. District 6 Champion in 100 hurdles and triple jump and qualified for states in the long jump. This does not include 2007 season meets with the bulk of the major big meets yet to be completed. She has been virtually unbeaten in her four events the past two years in dual meets.
Academically Liz is in the top 3.0% Class Rank (Class of 2007 Ranked five of 143), National Honor Society 7-12 with over 180 hours of volunteer time, National Honor Roll, and perfect attendance in grades 9-12. Liz was selected along with 20 students of her freshman class to participate in an accelerated academic program that began in her freshman and ended in her senior year.
“We are very proud that our daughter will be receiving scholarship money,” Mr. and Mrs. Tepsic said. “We are grateful that Liz has been recognized for her academics and athletic accomplishments.”
