Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives from cancer will take place in Blair County this month. It is estimated to raise a considerable amount of money for the Cancer Society. In the last several groups, many Tyrone area organizations and businesses have become involved with this effort.
Students at the Tyrone Area Elementary School will also be involved with this important effort. Students will be raising money and walking in the elementary gym for one class period designated by their teachers during their ‘Mini-Relay’ on Thursday, June 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
“It’s a great opportunity for the students to make an impact in the community as well as become knowledgeable about cancer. The students feel good about themselves knowing they are doing something to help others,” said Brenda Cowger, Tyrone Elementary Nurse and ‘Mini-Relay’ coordinator.
The ‘Mini-Relay’ will be an all-day event complete with music and activities. All money raised by the Tyrone Area Elementary students will be donated to the American Cancer Society. There will be a theme for this event, just as there is for the Blair County Relay For Life events. The theme for this year’s ‘Mini-Relay’ will be: Under the Big Top!
