Tyrone Hospital officials have announced the annual Tyrone Hospital Corporation meeting will be held on August 27 at 7 p.m. at the LGI room at Tyrone Elementary School.
Each year at the annual meeting, corporation members elect individuals to fill any vacancies on the Tyrone Hospital board of directors. Current board members eligible to serve an additional term are also re-elected.
The hospital leaders have announced the following individuals as candidates for the board of directors. The following individuals have been nominated for re-election:
• Mr. Robert Smith who is retired from PPG Industries. During his career at PPG, Mr. Smith served in a variety of management positions in information technology and accounting. He is a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College in Washington. He also served for nine years in the United States Army where he was a crew man and an instructor on the B-52 aircraft.‑As a member of the Tyrone Hospital board of directors, Mr. Smith has served on the finance, personnel, marketing, and quality improvement committees. He is a member of the Tyrone Kiwanis Club. He resides in Warriors Mark.
• John Johnson, M.D., board certified anesthesiologist. Dr. Johnson has been an active member of the Tyrone Hospital medical staff since1991. He is currently serving as Vice President of the Tyrone Hospital Medical Staff and Chief of Anesthesiology. He also serves as a member of the medical staff’s Allied Health Committee.‑Dr. Johnson developed and serves as Medical Director of the Keystone Headache and Pain Management Center at Tyrone Hospital.‑He is also a member of Central Anesthesia Associates.
• Luis Jourdain, M.D., board certified pathologist. Dr. Jourdain has been an active member of the Tyrone Hospital medical staff since 1977. He is currently serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Tyrone Hospital medical staff and is Chief of Pathology. He is also chairman of the hospital’s Cancer Committee. Dr. Jourdain also serves as Associate Director of Pathology Associates of Blair County. He is also Medical Director of MDR global a specialized cancer research and service laboratory.
Hospital leaders have announced the following nominees to fill two vacant positions on the board of directors:
• Mr. Nino Vella, President and Chief Executive Officer of the highly recognized New Pig Corporation in Tipton, Pennsylvania. Previously, Mr. Vella held the position of chief financial officer. Before joining New Pig in 1986, he was a certified public accountant with Edwards, Leap & Sauer of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. He is a native of Loretto, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science Degree in accounting. During Mr. Vella’s tenure, New Pig has grown from a few hundred products into a multi-channel, multi-brand supplier of more than 4,500 products, expanding into more than 40 countries worldwide. Mr. Vella has developed a new business management system to improve organizational performance and spearheaded the development of the software and training for this new management system. He is currently writing a book describing the system.
• Mr. Frederick Thomas, who is retired from a career of more than thirty-two years in Human Resource management.‑During his career, Mr. Thomas held positions in human resource management at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland, Space Communications Company in Gaitherburg, Maryland, Blue Cross Blue Shield in Washington, D.C. and at Mercy Regional Health System in Altoona.‑ Mr. Thomas also has more than fifteen years of experience as an instructor. He is currently an adjunct professor of business at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Pa.‑ His career includes‑ three years of service in the United States Army where he served as a German linguist in U.S. Army intelligence. ‑His education includes an undergraduate degree from St. Vincent College and a master of business administration degree from Loyola University in Baltimore. He is a member of the Tyrone Rotary Club. He serves on the board of directors at the Tyrone Snyder Public Library and resides in Bald Eagle.
