Old foe, new conference, the Huntingdon Bearcats are in the Big School Division of the Mt. League (Allegany) and Tyrone continued their dominance over the Bearcats.
In a rare single dual meet the Golden Eagles played with their lineup hoping to set up some good times for Friday’s West Central Coaches Meet in Altoona. “This is the tough part of our schedule where we have six competitions in 12 days.” Coach Yaniello said. “The WCCM is one of those meets you look at for judging how you stack up against most of the competition in the district meet. We are trying to save some legs for that meet as all our team members are complaining of having tired legs.”
That being said, the Golden Eagles hammered Huntingdon 111 to 39.
In the boys meet with Huntingdon the Golden Eagles won 15 of 18 events, sweeping all three relays and only giving up one point in all the jumps. In one of the most impressive performances in the area junior Kyle Updike cleared 6-3 in the high jump, the top jump in the district so far this year AA or AAA. Ben Ingle won the 800 (2:17), 400 (55.6), and ran with Dustin Elder, Nathan Kruis, and Richie Stever in the winning 3200 Relay. Shane Emigh placed first in the Long Jump (18-11) and Triple Jump (38-5), and was on the winning 400 relay team with Larry Glace, Shayne Tate, and Johnny Franco. Franco placed first in the 100 (11.6) Mark Mingle placed first in the Javelin (132-1). Richie Stever won the 3200 (10:52). Brandon Gehret placed first in the 300 IM Hurdles (47.5). Robbie Hopkins won the pole vault (12-0). Josh Bradley placed first in the discus and Ross Black won the 110 Hurdles. The 1600 relay team won with team members Nathan Kruis, Tyler Poorman, Dustin Elder, and Evan Lewis.
In the girls meet Tyrone was defeated 111 to 39. Lady Eagles placing first were Sarah Halter 3200 (14:33), Lizzie Shields 200 (28.0), and Ashley Salyer (800) 2:52. Other placing for the Golden Eagles were, Alexis Murray second in the Javelin (78-0), Ashley Ford second in the 800 (2:53), and third 1600 (6:37) and Long Jump (12-4).
