Failed to return DVD
State police report theft of leased property at Lyken’s Market in Port Matilda ranging from the dates of September of 2006 through September of ’07. The following were accused of leasing a DVD and failing to return it by the lease: Bryan M. Wertz, 27, Tyrone; Tyler Muchmore, 21, Port Matilda; Lorrie Gentzel, 41, Warriors Mark; Aaron Bitner, 23, Port Matilda; and Lance Reese, 29, Tyrone. Total losses reported by Lyken’s Market individually ranged from $70.49 to $342.94.

Theft of ATV and tools
Between the dates of September 18-19, an unknown actor broke a window of a storage shed owned by John M. Verilla, 50, Tyrone, along SR 1013 Sinking Valley Road, and entered the shed stealing a 1999 Yamaha Grizzly four wheeler (Black and gray in color) valued at $1,500, a Craftsman mig welder (black and gray in color) valued at $300 and a small plastic tool box (black and yellow in color), containing hand tools valued at $200. State police ask if any person has any information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact Hollidaysburg State Police and refer to incident number G01-1090864. The investigation is continuing.

Burglary
Between 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Friday, September 21, someone forced entry into the residence of Steven and Kelly Walker located along Floral Drive, Snyder Township, Tyrone. State police report the unknown actor broke in through a ground floor window and removed jewelry, electronic items and a small quantity of alcohol. The loss is tentatively set at $1,800 for the stolen property and $100 for the damaged window. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact state police at 814-696-6100.

Pending DUI
George Emerson Martin, 18, Altoona, was stopped in his 1985 Toyota truck by state police for several traffic violations along SR 1013 in Tyrone Township, on September 22. Martin was eventually detained for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Underage Consumption. This investigation is pending blood results for DUI.

Crash
State police report on September 23, David Miller, 21, Tyrone, was traveling East on Decker Hollow Road, Snyder Township, at a high rate of speed in his 1983 Mustang 5.0. Miller rounded a curve in the roadway and lost control of the vehicle and began to slide and spinning counterclockwise. He then struck a flower bed causing the vehicle to begin to roll, then sliding on its side, sideways and struck a large tree, spun around two times and then struck another large tree. Friends of Miller’s pulled up in another vehicle and got the operator out of the car and then fled the scene. According to the police report, he was not wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries, and the car was heavily damaged. Miller is facing numerous violations once the investigation becomes complete.

DUI
On September 23, state police reported a traffic stop conducted along SR 4023, Antis Township, with a Dodge Ram 2500 operated by Kerry Wade Shawley, 46, Altoona. According to the police report, further investigation revealed that Shawley was under the influence of alcohol. As a result, Shawley was taken to Tyrone Hospital for a blood test to determine his blood alcohol concentration. Charges are pending in regards to this investigation.

DUI crash
Pennsylvania State Police at Hollidaysburg report on September 23 police investigated a single unit motor vehicle crash along SR 453, Snyder Township. The crash occurred when Jason Matthew Hunter, 20, Tyrone, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway on his 2007 Yamaha R6, left the roadway and slid along the shoulder of SR 453. Hunter was transported from the scene by ambulance to the Altoona Hospital for treatment. In the course of the investigation, the police report said it was determined that Hunter was under the influence of alcohol. Charges are pending against Hunter for DUI and related traffic offenses.
