Tyrone’s Junior High Basketball Team visited Hollidaysburg, on Wednesday, and traveled to Lewistown Thursday, splitting the pair of games with a win at Lewistown and losing to the undefeated Tigers.
Hollidaysburg’s Junior High Basketball Team definitely fit their mascots name aptly as the Tigers, who are soundly undefeated, handled the Eagle’s 67-32.
Although the Eagle’s never quit playing the entire game, the Tigers outmatched Tyrone in almost every position on the court.
“Hollidaysburg has an unbelievable junior high squad,” said Tyrone Junior High Coach Stever. “They play the game at a level of speed and skill that was quite an experience for our team. We really benefited from this game.”
Jim Ferguson had a double-double this afternoon with 13 points and 12 rebounds; while teammate Rich Stever scored 11 points and did a tremendous job handling their intense man pressure at the point.
At Lewistown, the Eagle’s took some of their experience from the game with the Tigers and got out running at the tip-off and pounced on the Panthers early 14-6 after the first period.
“We decided to learn from the lesson the day before and get out and use our speed today,” said Stever, “and it paid off.”
JD Dorminy put up 16 points and eight steals in an indescribable effort.
“JD out hustled every player in the gym today,” said Stever, “he played one heck of a game. Also, our man defense was stifling as their two best players were held to just two points”
Steve Franco put in 11, and Jared Templeton scored eight in an all round team effort as the Eagle’s soundly defeated the Panther’s on their home court 48-25.
The Eagle’s also won the first contest defeating Lewistown 39-23. Richard Crabtree continued to light it up again today leading the Eagle’s with 18 points, followed by Nick Patton’s eight. Jordan Faretta had another solid game with eight assists.
The Eagle’s have a lot of action scheduled in their final week of the regular season with their final road trip to Indian Valley Monday, followed by a three game home show with Philipsburg-Osceola on Wednesday, Penn’s Valley on Thursday, and Bellwood Antis on Friday.
