William D. McNaul, age 93 of 1 Longsdorf Way, Carlisle, PA and formerly of Tyrone, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born April 20, 1915 in Coalport, the son of Blaine R. and Margaret Davidson McNaul. In 1937 he married Cleo Milligan. They enjoyed 61 years together. Cleo preceded him in death May 12, 1998. He will be sadly missed by their two daughters, Eleanor Hartman of Boiling Springs and Gretchen (Harry) Fisher of Rochester, NY; five grandchildren – William (Kyong) Hartman, Elizabeth (Joseph) Knouse, Mark and Alex Fisher, Eleanor (Andrew) Olander, and six great-grandchildren – William, Abigail and Joseph Knouse Jr., Annette and Adam Hartman and Lauren Olander. He was the last of his immediate family.
Mr. McNaul was a member of the First English Lutheran Church. He was a 1934 graduate of Tyrone High School. Early in his career, Mr. McNaul worked at the McNaul Brothers Meat Packing Company in Coalport and later owned and operated his own grocery store on Logan Avenue in Tyrone. He also worked as a produce manager at the Acme in Tyrone, as well as a custodian and bus driver for the Tyrone Area School District. Mr. McNaul retired from Westvaco Paper Mill after many years of service. He was a member of Tyrone F&AM No. 494, the Jaffa Shrine, and the Scottish rite, Valley of Altoona. As a boy he was a Sea Scout and basketball player. He was a member of the Cayman Campers Club of Treasure Lake since 1984 where he was an avid fisherman and camper. For over 30 years he had served on the Tyrone Area School Board. Lovingly known by many as Pop-pop, he will be remembered for his selflessness, honesty, and integrity.
Funeral services for William D. McNaul will be Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 3 p.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Reverend Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment will be in Blair Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Friends may call the funeral home on Saturday from 2 to the 3 p.m. hour of service.
