Thelma S. Givler, 88, of 1451 Greendale Road, Tyrone, died Tuesday evening July 29, 2008 at Tyrone Hospital.
She was born April 2, 1920 in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of Oliver Porter and Dora Elizabeth (Hildebrand) Stonebraker. On May 26, 1948 in Tyrone she married George M. Givler. He died October 16, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Michael H. of York, Gregory L. and wife Donna of Tyrone and a grandson Shawn Michael. She was preceded in death by a sister Hope Grove and a brother Vance Hildebrand.
Mrs. Givler retired in 1978 from Bell Telephone, Altoona as an operator following 32 years service. She was previously employed with the Civil Service Commission at the Pentagon, Washington D.C.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Tyrone, Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary, AARP, Howard Gardner American Legion Auxiliary, Bell Telephone Pioneers and the 70th Tank Battalion Association.
Thelma was a longtime supporter of Tyrone High School football. She enjoyed western movies and sitting on her front porch.
Funeral services will be held Saturday August 2, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Barry Neal officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
