Music will fill the air during the Colonel Crowther Day Weekend event that will take place Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3, at the upper part of Reservoir Park in Tyrone.
However, anyone looking for what passes for music today, won’t hear it at the encampment.
What visitors will hear is music from the civil war era played on original instruments.
“Once again this year The Logan Guard will be with us,” stated Bob Hileman, Jr., President of The Colonel Crowther Foundation.
“Many people who attended the concert at the amphitheater last year know what a fine band they are,” Hileman continued, “and this year you will see and hear them perform in a casual camp setting.
“This brings to life the way that soldiers in the civil war heard performances by their regimental bands.”
Members of the Mason/Dixon Brass Band will join the Logan Guard.
Together they will perform a concert in camp on Saturday evening, August 2, at 7:15 p.m.
The public is invited to bring a folding chair and join in to conclude the day with what is sure to be another outstanding performance by these excellent musicians.
A demonstration of Union Army Signal Corps communication practices will be held this year.
Communication by flag signals over distances small and large was a necessity for the army when telegraph was not available.
A member of The Keystone Regiment who is an expert in this type of communication will give a verbal presentation followed by an exhibit of the methods used by soldiers in the Union Army.
These demonstrations will take place in the small field next to the encampment at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Mark the calendar now in order to remember to come to the upper end of Reservoir Park in Tyrone during the weekend of August 2 and 3 to witness the Union Army Signal Corps demonstration and the excellent music that will be performed by The Logan Guard and the Mason/Dixon Brass Band.
